Jonathan Larson’s autobiographical musical chronicles the struggles and breakthroughs of a young composer penning songs that would ultimately pave the way for his groundbreaking success with RENT.

In this spirit, our talkback will explore the unique challenges and rewards of writing for the theater—particularly musical theater—where words and music are crafted not as finished works on the page, but as blueprints for the stage. How does this collaborative process differ from authoring solo? What is it like to build characters and scenes meant to be shaped by directors, actors, and musicians? This engaging talkback invites theater lovers, writers, and artists to discover how stories grow from the page to the stage, and beyond.

The discussion will be facilitated by Kira Troilo, a Boston-based writer and EDI consultant for arts organizations and the theater community.
